Inswing vs Outswing
How to Determine Door Swing (Handing Left-hand or Right-hand door) Ordering a door, you will be asked the door swing. This can prove be very confusing. Below illustrations were designed to help you understand door swing.
- Inswing Left, Push (IL): If the HINGES are on the LEFT and the door opens into the room or AWAY from you. You Push the door and it swing to the left.
- Inswing Right, Push (IR): If the HINGES are on the RIGHT and the door opens into the room or AWAY from you. You Push the door and it swing to the Right.
- Outswing Left, Pull (OL): If the HINGES are on the LEFT and the door opens TOWARDS you, or out of the room. You Pull the door and it swings to the left.
- Outswing RIGHT, Pull (OR): If the HINGES are on the RIGHT and the door opens TOWARDS you, or out of the room. You Pull the door and it swings to the right.
